Han Sim’s son wanted a coffee, so he tagged along and decided to buy a Lotto 6/49 ticket for the July 5, 2025 draw on a whim. While grocery shopping, Sim discovered this ticket scored him $1 million.

“I was at Save-On-Foods,” recalled Sim of the moment he realized he won. “I googled the combo eight, matched three numbers and I looked at the Extra and I matched two numbers.” By confirming with the retailer, Sim then learned he won $1 million.

The Burnaby resident was most excited to share the news with his wife. “She was still sleeping; she couldn’t believe it!”

Sim then shared the news with his two sons and daughter-in-law. “I said we’ll go to Harrison Hot Springs together and have a good dinner.”

Apart from a celebratory dinner, Sim plans to go on a family holiday and use his winnings to help his sons with their mortgages.

On how it feels to win one million dollars?

“I think it will feel more real once I deposit [the cheque] at the bank!”

The winning ticket was purchased at Save-On-Foods inside Madison Centre on Lougheed Highway in Burnaby.
