“I Was in a State of Numbness”: Surrey Resident Scores $1 Million from Lotto Max

January 12, 2026

BCLC lottery winner Arthur H.

Arthur H. couldn’t contain his excitement after learning that he scored a $1 million Maxmillion prize from the December 26, 2025 Lotto Max draw.

“I was at home with my wife, watching the Canucks game,” recalled Arthur. “We’re both Canucks fans! I got up during a break to check my ticket [on the BCLC Lotto! App] and I thought ‘wow!’ I was in a state of numbness, so I wanted to check again just to make sure.”

The Surrey resident first shared the news with his wife. “I went back to her and showed the ticket and asked, ‘What do we do now?’ She said it was only $1,000 and I replied with ‘Honey, count the digits!’”

After sharing the news with his wife, Arthur walked over to a gas station to use a self-scanner to double check his ticket.

While Arthur has no specific plans to spend his windfall, he shared that he will help his family.

On how it feels to win the lottery?

“Awesome! That is the first word that comes to mind.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Shell station on 152nd Street and 20th Avenue in Surrey.

In 2025, B.C. lottery players redeemed more than $248 million from Lotto Max. Lotto Max is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Tuesdays and Fridays after 7:30 p.m. (PST).
