A quick stop at the store for a morning newspaper turned into a life-changing moment for John M. when he discovered he won a $1 million prize from the April 3, 2026, Lotto Max draw.
The Logan Lake resident was at the Esso on Ponderosa Avenue, where he purchased the ticket a few days prior, and was taken aback when he learned of his win right at the store counter.
“I didn’t check the screen at first and asked for the win in fifties,” John recalled. “The clerk laughed and said he couldn’t pay it out. I wasn’t expecting this at all. I didn’t believe it and I’m still not sure I believe it!”
John couldn’t wait to share the news with his wife, who was equally surprised and in disbelief. They celebrated his windfall with loved ones over a family BBQ.
The lottery winner has a few immediate plans for his prize, including planning a few trips and may treat himself to a new car.
On how it feels to be a millionaire?
“It’s unbelievable... surreal!”
