Tomorrow, the National Hockey League will unveil the finalists for this year’s Calder Memorial Trophy, but PlayNow.com is already crowning a winner.
The Vancouver Canucks’ young phenom Elias Pettersson simply dazzled the competition, outplaying the rest of the rookie class. The NHL will officially crown the Calder Trophy winner at the 2019 NHL Awards in June.
Pettersson opened the season as the betting favourite to claim the Calder Trophy, staring down stiff competition from the likes of Buffalo Sabres defenceman Rasmus Dahlin – the first overall draft pick in 2018 – as well as Nashville Predators’ top prospect Eeli Tolvanen, and Carolina Hurricanes scoring winger Andrei Svechnikov. St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington, who is expected to be one of the other three nominees, was not a betting option to start the season.
