Supporting community initiatives

The City of Abbotsford used a portion of its share of provincial gambling revenue generated at Chances Abbotsford to support various community initiatives, including grants for special community events. More than $185,000 in funding was distributed among seven organizations to host local community events, such as the Sumas First Nation Powwow, the Taste of Abbotsford Fall Festival and the Symphony in the Park.

Additionally, Abbotsford’s Neighbourhood Spirit Grants program, which funds small-scale projects that foster connection between local residents, received more than $15,000 to help build and strengthen communities. In 2023, these grants funded community block parties, crafting afternoons and fun events for families at Mill Lake.

Abbotsford Centre

Abbotsford Centre

Since opening its doors in 2009, the Abbotsford Centre has become a hub of activity in the city. With a capacity of up to 8,500 seats, the multipurpose arena has hosted countless concerts, competitions, and events, and is the current home to the Abbotsford Canucks (AHL). The Centre received a boost in 2012 when the city allocated $800,000 from its share of provincial gambling revenue, for hosting Chances Abbotsford, towards operating costs.
