BCLC is proud to give back to the citizens of B.C. and help communities grow. Revenue generated by gambling goes back to the Province of B.C. and is distributed in a variety of ways, including to communities through Host Local Government payments and the Province of B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants program.

In 2024/25, Chances Castlegar contributed to the Castlegar community and economy in a variety of ways. Here are just a few.

Community benefits

In 2024, Chances Castlegar helped fund youth sports programs such as Castlegar Rebels Minor Hockey and Trail Smoke Eaters Minor Hockey, as well as cultural and educational initiatives including the Castlegar Sculpture Walk, Peak Performance Dance Studios, and graduation events for SHSS and Mount Sentinel students.

 

Support was also directed toward community services like the Harvest Food Bank, Castlegar’s winter homeless shelter, Salmo Elementary School’s Hot Lunch Program, and Trail’s F.A.I.R. Society. The Selkirk College Student Union also received funding to assist with student-led initiatives.

Each year, municipal and First Nation governments in B.C. that host a gambling facility receive a 10 percent share of net gambling income generated at those facilities. In 2024/25, 33 Host Local Governments across B.C. received $86.6 million in provincial gambling revenue to fund local projects and initiatives.
