Port Alberni

BCLC is proud to give back to the citizens of B.C. and help communities grow. Revenue generated by gambling goes back to the Province of B.C. and is distributed in a variety of ways, including to communities through Host Local Government payments and the Province of B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants program.

In 2024/25, RimRock Casino contributed to the Port Alberni community and economy in a variety of ways. Here are just a few.

Community initiatives

In 2024, the City of Port Alberni allocated $450,000 from its share of provincial gambling revenue to support economic development, cultural programs, and community initiatives. The largest investments included:

  • $244,030 to offset economic development costs, contributing to the City’s operational and planning capacity.
  • $172,770 for the operations of McLean Mill National Historic Site, a national heritage site with industrial and cultural significance.
  • $33,200 for the Community Investment Plan/Grants in Aid, which funded a range of local events and programs.

Grants supported organizations such as the Community Arts Council of the Alberni Valley’s arts festival and book sale ($6,700), Port Alberni Motorcycle Toy Run ($2,930), Port Alberni Orchestra and Chorus Society and Alberni Classical Concerts Society received a total of $2,700 to support their performances, Port Alberni Family Guidance Association parenting drop-in group ($2,500), and Port Alberni Special Olympics swimming program ($1,950).

Community Gaming Grants

Last year, 29 not-for-profit organizations in Port Alberni received Community Gaming Grants, totalling $737,443. This funding supports organizations in the human and social services sector, public safety, sports, arts and culture, and parent advisory councils.

Did you know?

In 2024, RimRock Casino supported a variety of local organizations through donations, sponsorships, and volunteer efforts. Beneficiaries included the SPCA, Sage Haven, the Alberni Athletic Association, and the A.V. Bulldogs. Additional support was provided to community events and groups such as the Port Alberni Toy Run, and Thunder in the Valley.
