BCLC is proud to give back to the citizens of B.C. and help communities grow. Revenue generated by gambling goes back to the Province of B.C. and is distributed in a variety of ways, including to communities through Host Local Government payments and the Province of B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants program.

In 2024/25, Billy Barker Casino contributed to the Quesnel community and economy in a variety of ways. Here are just a few.

Community benefits

In 2024, the City of Quesnel allocated its share of provincial gambling revenue to a variety of capital and public safety initiatives. Funding supported both major infrastructure and smaller community-focused projects.

 

  • $202,203 for Sprout Kitchen, contributing to the purchase of the facility to support the ongoing availability of commercial kitchen space and business development services for local food entrepreneurs and small-scale producers.
  • $71,180 for the replacement of a fire squad vehicle.
  • $54,759 for security lighting and video camera upgrades at a city bridge to improve safety and monitoring.
  • $47,500 to replace dated playground equipment at Ritchie Street Park, enhancing a well-used neighborhood green space.
  • $47,422 for implementation of the City’s Technology Plan, including essential hardware upgrades.
  • $22,268 for cemetery irrigation system upgrades to improve maintenance and water efficiency.
  • $21,849 for diagnostics equipment at the airport.
  • $19,795 to replace aging printers, copiers, and faxes across city departments.
  • $18,863 for firefighting protective clothing and equipment.
  • Smaller investments were also made in upgraded crosswalks, interpretive signage, and security hoist installation at the airport  fire facility.
