BCLC is proud to give back to the citizens of B.C. and help communities grow. Revenue generated by gambling goes back to the Province of B.C. and is distributed in a variety of ways, including to communities through Host Local Government payments and the Province of B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants program.

In 2024/25, Chances Playtime Campbell River contributed to the Campbell River community and economy in a variety of ways. Here are just a few.

CR Live Streets

In 2024, the City of Campbell River allocated its share of provincial gambling revenue to a range of capital and operating initiatives across the community. Funding supported:

  • $158,626 in community grants, including allocations for parks maintenance, economic development, beautification, and seniors’ services.
  • $125,713 to support CR Live Streets and downtown events.
  • $114,555 for implementation of the Urban Forest Management Plan.
  • $104,322 for the Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw Update, supporting housing-related initiatives.
  • $87,487 for remediation of PFAS contamination at the airport on lands formerly used for fire training.
  • $50,000 toward development of a Community Safety Plan involving coordination between local and provincial agencies.
  • $39,043 for mid-life rehabilitation of the Sportsplex, including replacement of major building systems and a 1,100 sq. ft. addition for gymnasium storage.
  • $34,445 to fund a seasonal security presence at the Sportsplex Skatepark in response to safety concerns.
  • Additional funding supported Spirit Square programming, airport business planning, ball field maintenance, and façade revitalization downtown.

Community Recreation Upgrades

In 2024, Campbell River used part of its gambling revenue to complete critical upgrades at the Sportsplex, including new rooftop units and windows, as well as added gym storage space—extending the building’s usability for  community recreation.

Each year, municipal and First Nation governments in B.C. that host a gambling facility receive a 10 percent share of net gambling income generated at those facilities. In 2024/25, 33 Host Local Governments across B.C. received $86.6 million in provincial gambling revenue to fund local projects and initiatives.
