Indigenous Sponsorships

Our criteria

Please read the following criteria carefully, as applications must meet the requirements to be considered:

  • Applicant organizations must be able to identify and demonstrate a connection to a First Nations in B.C., a B.C. Métis Chartered Community represented by the Métis Nation British Columbia or a recognized organization that serves Indigenous Peoples in B.C. (e.g. Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society, Lii Michif Otipemisiwak Family and Community Services, Indian Residential School Survivors Society (IRSSS)).
  • Single events should not span longer than seven days.
  • Events must align with BCLC’s Indigenous reconciliation approach that includes building meaningful relationships with Indigenous Peoples in B.C.; providing education about Canada’s colonial history and ongoing relationships with Indigenous Peoples; economic reconciliation; and improved employment outcomes for Indigenous Peoples in B.C.
  • Events can be arts, culture, sports, employment or economic development focused.
  • Sponsorship requests must align with BCLC's social purpose to generate win-wins for the greater good, validate BCLC as a strong community partner and convey a positive image.
  • Priority will be given to events that are open to other Nations and/or to the public.
  • The event request must provide a complete list of sponsorship categories, details, opportunities and fees.
  • The event request should detail opportunities for BCLC employee volunteering and/or hosting opportunities.

We cannot consider requests for:

  • Individual life events or needs (weddings, funerals, graduations, celebrations of life, etc.).
  • Events or activities contentious in any way or that may be deemed unacceptable to the community at large.
  • ‘For profit’ events or events that are proposed by ‘for profit’ entities (e.g. consultants).
  • Religious organizations.
  • Political organizations and candidates.
  • Operational funding or budget deficits.
  • Capital funds for projects or equipment.
  • Charitable donations or grants. Please visit the Government of B.C. website for details on the Province’s Community Gaming Grant Program for not-for-profit organizations.
  • Organizations that direct BCLC sponsorship to organizations or events outside of British Columbia.
  • Individual athletes, or registration fees.

Review process and timelines

BCLC reviews sponsorship proposals quarterly in January, April, July and October. We do not review proposals outside of these times. An email response detailing our decision will be sent following our quarterly review.

Please ensure that you apply with enough lead time to have your opportunity thoroughly considered. We suggest a minimum of two months lead time from the ‘response by’ date to your event. For events of a larger scale, three – six months lead time is recommended.
