How are Lottery Numbers Drawn?

National lotteries

BCLC and four other Canadian provincial lottery jurisdictions comprise the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation (ILC), which operates the national draw games Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max and Daily Grand.

National game draws are all conducted in Toronto. Representatives from an independent firm audit every aspect of the draws to verify results and ensure their integrity.

ILC draws for Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49 and Daily Grand occur using Random Number Generator (RNG) software. This also applies to draws for the Lotto 6/49 Guaranteed Prize Draw and Lotto Max Maxmillions.

Integrity and security are at the core of every game we offer and are fundamental to the success of our business. As such, third-party experts have tested and certified the RNG software for randomness, including two draw auditors located in two separate geographical locations.

BCLC regional lotteries

BCLC operates a number of regional lottery games, including BC/49, BC 50/50, Keno, Keno Pattern Play, Pacific Hold’Em Poker, Poker Lotto and all Extra games.

BCLC conducts all regional game draws in Kamloops using RNG software.

To ensure the ongoing integrity of games, third-party experts have tested and certified the randomness of the RNG software. In addition, regular external and internal audits check the physical security of the solution, which also runs self-tests to ensure integrity.
