9pm Routine Program
The City of Kelowna continued to support crime prevention, public safety and policing in 2021 with funds generated by Chances Kelowna and Playtime Casino Kelowna. Part of the funds generated for hosting those facilities went towards supporting the 9pm Routine, a program that aims to reduce property crime.
Police forces around the world support the 9pm Routine movement. The program encourages residents to make a regular routine of conducting security checks on a nightly basis at 9pm.
The 9pm Routine highlights a few simple checks to reduce opportunistic crime:
- Remove spare keys, garage door openers, electronics and other valuables from vehicles;
- Ensure home and vehicle doors and windows are shut and locked;
- Put away and secure all items around your home;
- Secure your shed and outbuildings;
- Turn on exterior lights.
