Community Stories
Kelowna's Community Safety Unit Initiatives
In 2022, the City of Kelowna allocated its share of provincial gambling revenue from hosting Chances Kelowna and Playtime Casino Kelowna to policing, public and community safety through its Community Safety Unit Initiatives.
Kelowna’s Community Safety Unit received funds to support processes for restorative justice, used as an alternative to court for RCMP-referred minor offence first-time youth offenders, as well as the Kelowna Integrated Court.
The Kelowna Integrated Court aims to improve access to health, social, and economic services for offenders, improve public safety, and hold offenders accountable for their actions in a timely manner. Funds also supported additional RCMP members.
Giving back to Kelowna
Playtime Casino Kelowna and its staff support, volunteer, and donate to many community organizations and initiatives. In 2022, Playtime Kelowna supported the “Hearts & Hands for Ukraine” fundraiser with a $1,500 donation and prizes for their silent auction. The event supported newly-arriving Ukrainians settling in Kelowna.
Playtime Kelowna also supported Okanagan Ride for Dad with a $2,000 sponsorship in 2022. The ride raises funds for prostate cancer research. Playtime staff members prepared the feast for the end of ride barbecure, with several team members volunteering their time on the grill.
