No Power No Problem: Penticton Resident Discovers $342K Lotto 6/49 Win Amidst Power Outage

Shawn O’Brien didn’t need electricity to feel a massive jolt of excitement after checking his Lotto 6/49 ticket from the September 13, 2023 draw and realizing he was exactly $342,776.20 richer.

O’Brien, who was on vacation at the time in Meziadin B.C., had just woken up to a power outage and decided it was the perfect time to check his ticket on BCLC’s PlayNow.com; where he also purchased the ticket from.

“I sat still for a few minutes in disbelief and then checked it three more times to make sure it was real,” the Penticton resident recalled of the moment he realized he was a winner.

The first person to find out about the good news was his wife, who was “shocked and in disbelief.”

The couple celebrated O’Brien’s win over a steak dinner and look forward to paying off the mortgage, thanks to his win.
