BCLC is proud to give back to the citizens of B.C. and help communities grow. Revenue generated by gambling goes back to the Province of B.C. and is distributed in a variety of ways, including to communities through Host Local Government payments and the Province of B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants program.
In 2022/23, Chances Dawson Creek contributed to the Dawson Creek community and economy in a variety of ways. Here are just a few.
Dawson Creek Agricultural Fair, Rodeo & Exhibition
In 2022, the City of Dawson Creek allocated $144,190 of its share of provincial gambling revenue to support the annual Dawson Creek Agricultural Fair, Rodeo & Exhibition. The annual event attracted more than 30,000 visitors, which featured professional rodeo events, chuckwagon races, food trucks, amusements and rides, concerts and the midway.
This was the event’s 100th anniversary, drawing visitors from all over Peace Country, Northern Alberta and beyond.
Calvin Kruk Centre for the Arts
A hub for the arts of all kinds in Dawson Creek, the Calvin Kruk Centre for the Arts was built thanks to help from the City’s share of provincial gaming revenue. The City of Dawson Creek allocated $2.3 million of gaming revenue generated at Chances Dawson Creek towards the state-of-the-art facility, which opened its doors in 2014. The Centre has been an amazing addition to the city’s vibrant arts and culture scene, with a range of classes for residents and an auditorium that offers up a stage to talented local and travelling performers alike.
