Chilliwack Learning Society

Originally incorporated in 1990 as the Fraser Valley East Literacy Association with a mandate to promote literacy for all groups and people, the Chilliwack Learning Society (CLS) runs numerous programs that benefit the community. The CLS offers outreach to parents and caregivers; works with family development programs and small businesses to promote literacy skills and employability training in the workplace; and offers an impactful ESL volunteer program.

In 2021, CLS received $30,000 from the Province of B.C.’s  Community Gaming Grants program. This funding supported the training of volunteer tutors. Additionally, the program served 179 learners with one-on-one sessions and small classes designed to build their language skills and create lasting social connections.
